Financial Planning Lesson From The Kernel

I love hearing great success stories, and the ones that seem to keep grabbing my interest, are where people overcome struggles and difficulties with tenacious persistence and a never give in attitude. That’s why this story strikes such a chord…. and should be a financial planning lesson for you too.

The Story

At 65 years of age, Colonel Sanders received his first social security cheque of $99. He was broke, but owned a small house and a beat up car. He made a decision that things had to change. His friends used to like his chicken recipe, and as this was the only novel idea he had, he decided to act upon it.

He left Kentucky and started travelling to different states in the US to sell his idea. He would tell restaurant owners that he had a chicken recipe that people liked, and he was ready to give it to them for free in return for a small percentage of the meals sold. He received rejection after rejection, but did not give up.

He got 1,009 NO’s before he got his first Yes. With that one success, Colonel Hartland Sanders changed the eating habits of the whole world with Kentucky Fried Chicken, popularly known as KFC.

The Lesson

Think about how that financial planning lesson is relevant in your business for a minute… How many rejections are you prepared to bear before you give up or lose all your confidence?

Whether it be prospects that say no, or referral partners who won’t engage like they said they would or you just can’t get past the gatekeeper… What about that stubborn client that you know needs to do something with their strategy or re-visit their super or insurance structure, but you just can’t pin them down for a meeting and feel like you’re forever chasing them – hitting your head against a brick wall over and over again….

I want you to know, that this is all normal and part of being a professional and passionate adviser. The decision for you to make is…. keep doing the same things – the same way – and hope for a better outcome… or;

Decide that there has to be a better – smarter way to go about the same issues – that will give you the results you’re looking for much faster!

It’s interesting they say, “Sometimes you can’t see the forest for the trees…”. And it’s true!

It’s amazing the clarity and focus you can obtain simply by getting some fresh, new ideas and perhaps coming at things from a different angle.

We often get enormous results for our Coaching Club clients and it’s a matter of just ‘tweak, hone and refine’ (as opposed to massive changes) being all the difference. I promise you, there’s a better way…
